Testing & Inspection Requirements
Ensuring Zero-Defect Delivery
Every single API 5L Grade B pipe produced and supplied by Excellent Overseas undergoes rigorous destructive and non-destructive testing (NDT) to guarantee mechanical stability under pressure.
- Hydrostatic Testing: 100% of pipes are tested to withstand required internal pressure without leakage.
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Eddy Current Testing (ECT), or Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) is performed on the weld seam and pipe body.
- Mechanical Testing: Tensile test, Flattening test (for ERW), and Bending test are conducted per heat lot.
- CVN Impact Testing: Mandatory for all PSL 2 pipes to verify fracture toughness at specified cold temperatures.
- Sour Service (Optional): HIC (Hydrogen-Induced Cracking) and SSC (Sulfide Stress Cracking) testing for NACE MR0175 compliant orders.
Manufacturing Processes
Depending on the diameter and application, our API 5L Grade B pipes are manufactured using different proven techniques:
- Seamless (SMLS): Manufactured by piercing a solid steel billet. Ideal for high-pressure, high-temperature, and smaller diameter applications (up to 26").
- Electric Resistance Welded (ERW): Formed from steel coils and welded longitudinally without filler metal. Extremely cost-effective for mid-range sizes (up to 24").
- Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welded (LSAW): Made by bending and welding steel plates with filler metal. Used for heavy wall thicknesses and large diameters.
- Helical/Spiral Welded (SSAW): Formed from steel coils welded in a spiral configuration. Suitable for very large diameters (up to 64") in water and low-pressure transmission.

Marking & Packaging Standard
Mill Identification & Secure Transit
Proper identification and safe handling are prioritized for all international shipments. Each API 5L Grade B pipe is marked and packed strictly according to API 5L standards:
- Stenciled Marking: Each pipe is marked with the Manufacturer Name, API 5L, Grade B, PSL Level, Dimension (OD x WT), Length, Heat Number, and Pipe Number.
- End Protection: Both ends of the pipe are fitted with plastic caps or metallic bevel protectors to prevent damage to the beveled or threaded ends during loading and unloading.
- Bundling: Smaller diameter pipes are tied in hexagonal bundles using high-strength steel strips with lifting slings attached.
- Loose Delivery: Large diameter pipes (usually above 8") are supplied loose, with wooden dunnage separating layers inside the shipping container or bulk vessel.
